A'uzu billahi minashaitanir rajim Bismillahir rahmanir rahim, a phrase recited before doing any daily activity for Taner and other Muslims worldwide. The meaning: In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, and the Most Merciful. And for DJ Taner K a phrase, a statement, a belief that truly defines this young mans character and persona by shying away from taking credit for any of his many accomplishments and success, but rather redirects it and thanks God and his family, promotional team and his many loyal friends, and cult-like following fan base.

Taner Kanlier or better known as DJ Taner K has been a name heard and mentioned frequently throughout the New England DJ and dance music circuit for the majority of the past 6 years and arguably one of the most sought after DJ’s from the Boston Area. Taner K has held numerous residencies at the most prestigious and coveted clubs and parties during that time period. Most notably a Thursday and Saturday night residence at world renowned Axis and Avalon which was spear headed and directed by the great John Debo who Taner credits for not only being such a positive figure and mentor for himself but for the dance music culture as a whole both locally and nationally due to the success of the powerful and electric Avaland Fridays. Avaland Friday’s week in and week out played host to top jockeys throughout the world playing in front of consistent sold out crowds on a state of the art custom built sound system in a cutting edge mega club. He also has an impressive and extensive resume of guest spots throughout the northeast at Clubs like Exit and Avalon, NYC and The Clevelander in Miami to name a few respectively.

More recently in 2004 and 2005 DJ Taner K was weekly Saturday night resident at The Penthouse, Boston Ma where with the help from his promotional team directed by his manager and Brother Tanzer. They were able to achieve amazing success and praise by winning The Improper Bostonian’s “Best Saturday Night Party” two years in a row.

Born and raised in Worcester MA, Taner attended Keene State College in Keene NH where he was double major in Environmental Engineering and Business Management. Graduating in 1998 Taner moved to Boston MA where he currently resides and spends ample hours in his self built home studio honing his trademark technical skills and consistently molding, and shaping his “percussion fueled, bass line vibrant, gritty sound laced with an ethnic vibe” as he likes to refer to it and that has become expected from him.

Raised by a proud Turkish-American family who’s father played the drums and a Turkish hand drum called a Darbuka add in the fact that he has many uncles and cousins stemming from both sides being musicians and performing in various nightclubs and weddings throughout Turkey. Its only fitting that Taner relishes in discovering new and advanced high quality music enriched with such a middle eastern distinction and feeling.

When asking Taner to elaborate on his practice time behind the decks or on his production work, he quickly and politely interrupts and gives his explanation of how he does not consider working with music practicing. “Practice is something you have to do or maybe even forced to do, Music and dj'ng is a passion not a job for me and often times I have difficulty summing in words just how much passion and respect I have for it!”

On the subject of jobs, one must mention that DJ Taner K, actually we should rephrase that. Taner Kanlier is the manager of the Environmental Health and Safety Engineering department for Epic Therapeutics (a wholly owned subsidiary of Baxter Health Care) located just outside of Boston in Norwood, MA.

When asking Taner about the juggling act and how he manages to continually excel with such quality and professionalism in both fields? I guess it would be safe to say that his answer might be a bit predictable by once again turning the praise elsewhere. “It’s easy when you are surrounded by such positive, loyal, and most importantly understanding managers, direct employees, co-workers, and of course family and friends!”

Taner and his team have some exciting events and parties lined up for Spring and Summer 06. On a personal level he plans on re-mixing and re-editing to many tracks to name and finalizing his own productions, which are in the pipeline, and itching to jump out.

With the amount of success and personal high’s that Taner has achieved in such a short time. Many people would be extremely happy and maybe even consider it a job well done. Not for DJ Taner K and in his own words “This is definitely just the beginning for me, I’m not even close to being where I want or dream of being someday and will not stop until I get there!”

With such a strong passion and drive that Taner uniquely posses, not many will doubt him and why should they?
